Five Woodmere Middle School staffers are Covid positive

Woodmere Middle school will shift to full online instruction for all of its sixth, seventh and eighth grade students on Monday, Nov. 16, as five staff members tested positive for Covid-19 over the weekend Principal Al Bauer stated in an email to parents.

The middle school will remain remote through the Thanksgiving holiday and reopen for in-person instruction on Monday, Nov. 30. “No students should report to school during this timeframe,” Bauer stated.

Students will follow their regular class schedules each day. “Please know that this decision was made with the health and safety of our students and staff as paramount,” he wrote. “Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”

Hewlett-Woodmere schools began the school year using a hybrid learning model and then offered full in-person instruction last month. This is the first time one of the district’s five school have closed this school year because of Covid cases. There was one confirmed case at the high school in September. The building was not closed. 

The Lawrence School District has reported seven Covid cases involving staff and students. The district went back to full remote learning in October because all the schools, except for the high school were in the orange and yellow hotspot cluster zones. Full in-person instruction began again earlier this month.
