Hewlett resident Cary Epstein honored for lifeguard saving efforts

Hewlett resident and Jones Beach lifeguard Cary Epstein was one of five lifeguards honored by Assemblywoman Judy Griffin, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) with a certificate of recognition for their live saving efforts in making a save during the Polar Bear Plunge in February.

Epstein has been a lifeguard at Jones Beach for over 20 years and was named New York State Lifeguard of the Year in 2017. He serves as a lifeguard supervisor, and for the past decade has directed the junior lifeguard competitive team at Jones Beach. He is also a lieutenant and certified emergency medical technician with the Hewlett Fire Department as well as a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor.
