Honoring the memory of Victor Spetalnick at Temple Hillel in North Woodmere

The memory of Temple Hillel member Victor Spetalnick, who died in February, was honored as the North Woodmere synagogue dedicated a newly redesigned minyan kitchen dedicated in his name on Aug. 4.

Spetalnick was a transformative Men’s Club president as he introduced Thursday night programs that drew more people to the temple for what are considered fascinating and entertaining discussions, along with Comedy Night with members telling their funniest jokes, and Trivia Night, where he gathered facts that the audience had to guess the answers to. Spetalnick also made prizes were available to the winners.

Rabbi Steven Graber introduced Barbara Spetalnick, Victor’s wife, who offered what temple officials said was “an amusing view of Victor,” at the beginning of the dedication.

Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the current Men’s Club president, followed and explained why Victor deserved to have the kitchen dedicated to him.

There was a ribbon-cutting and Graber affixed a new mezuzah donated by the Sisterhood, recited the appropriate blessing and led in the singing of the Shehecheyanu blessing, always delivered the first time something is done each Jewish calendar year.
