Disposing of chometz, securing your home

The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, Lawrence village's public works department and Sanitary District 1 will have containers available at the Lawrence Long Isiand Rail Road station by Zion Park from 7 a.m. to noon on April 5 for the religious ceremony of burning chometz for Passover.

No plastic bags or containers or aluminum items.

With so many neighbors being away for the eight-day Jewish holiday,  Nassau County Police Department's 4th Precinct in Hewlett noted that there will be increaded patrols and surveilliance, accordin to Lawrence mayor Alex Edelman.

Edelman added that the village will have people patrolling the area, aong wit the auxilliary police. 

Community members are reminded to lock car doors, and suspend mail and newspaper deliveries.
