‘John Doe’ arrested for damaging Inwood Sunoco market

After allegedly threatening a mini market employee with a jagged piece of glass, a man grabbed the employee’s cell phone and ripped the Lotto computer from the store counter causing roughly $2,000 worth of damage to the machine, police said.

At 2:35 a.m. on May 6, the man entered the Sunoco gas station store on Burnside Avenue in Inwood, removed a glass bottle and smashed on it on the counter, which caused it to break and allegedly used that broken piece as a weapon, according to police.

Responding officers arrested the man and retrieved the employee’s property. No injuries were reported, the police said, adding that the man did not cooperate with them and was identified as a “John Doe.”

He was charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree robbery, second-degree criminal mischief, second- degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and petit larceny.
