The vehicles drove in and out, the power jacks pulled the boxes full of food from the trucks and in the middle of all the kosher food distribution at the Lawrence School District’s Broadway Campus in Lawrence,  was Rep. Kathleen Rice, a Democrat who represents the Five Towns, appeared on Aug. 26.

Rice meet with a few Board of Education members and was given a tour of the set up that has served up to 21,000 households with food every Wednesday that can be transformed into seven breakfasts and lunches for the families. The food is brought in by Lawrence-based Elite Caterers through a contract with the school district. The distribution is expected to last through the coronavirus pandemic.

Elite Caterer employee Sam Korman, who asked two bystanders if that was Kathleen Rice, was introduced to the Congresswoman. Learning that Korman was a college student, Rice empathized with him and his peers’ plight regarding the current pandemic.
