Stolen Inwood fire vehicle ignites East Atlantic Beach transformer

A stolen Inwood Fire Department pickup truck struck a utility pole on Mohawk Avenue in East Atlantic Beach which caused the pole to crack in half and a power transformer to explode on March 4, according to Nassau police.

Police initially responded to Mohawk Avenue for a house fire. The subsequent investigation uncovered that the truck had been taken as video sowed that Inwood resident Wilson Ulloa entered the firehouse at 188 Doughty Blvd., in Inwood, and allegedly drove through the closed bay doors.

With the help of the Long Beach police, Nassau police found Ulloa, 22, of Provenzano Street, at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and West Beech Street in Long Beach, where he was arrested near 1 a.m.

Ulloa is charged with three counts of criminal mischief, burglary, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, two counts of driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on March 5. His next court date is March 7. As of press time, Ulloa had no legal representation.
