Woodmere Middle School student Bianca Duffer-Bajana, who also attends Nassau BOCES Twilight Alternative High School, was honored for her academic achievements by receiving the George Farber Outstanding Student Award.

Nassau BOCES said in a news release that the Duffer-Bajana received the award for her passion, perseverance, enthusiasm, outstanding character, scholarship and a willingness to help others. The award is named after former Nassau BOCES board president George Farber, who served in the position from 1971 to 2009.

Duffer-Bajana was honored during a virtual ceremony held in June, featuring a special presentation of her award plaque by the Twilight principal and her award nominator. She also received: an individual lawn sign announcing her achievement, a car parade past her home, and a $100 check for her outstanding contributions.

Dr. Robert Dillon, superintendent of Nassau BOCES, said that Duffer-Bajana exemplifies the best of Nassau BOCES.

“Bianca embodies the true spirit of George Farber as she has shown kindness to other students, exhibited an excellent work ethic and demonstrated outstanding commitment,” he said. “She has eagerly shared her knowledge and made contributions to her community. Bianca’s story is an inspiration to us all.”
