Franklin Square man and woman arrested for assaulting bus driver

A man and a woman from Franklin Square have been arrested in connection with an assault against a NICE bus driver, the Nassau County Police Department announced on March 23.

According to detectives, a 48-year-old bus driver picked up Hassan Moore, 26, and Shamasia Moore, 31, both of Franklin Square, at the intersection of Monroe Street and Hempstead Turnpike on March 22 at 1:45 p.m. Hassan, however, was not wearing a mask, police said, and refused to pay the fair. A verbal spat then ensued, and the Moores were asked to leave the bus. When they exited though, police report, the argument escalated and Hassan allegedly swung an object at the bus driver, causing a laceration on his left hand. 

The Moores then fled northbound on foot, police said, but a short time later, Hassan was located and arrested without incident. 

During the investigation, police said, they also found that Shamasia had previously been charged with criminal mischief for another incident. 

Hassan is charged with assault in the second-degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third-degree and unlawful possession of marijuana in the second-degree. Shamasia is charged with criminal mischief in the second-degree and harassment in the second-degree. They were scheduled to be arraigned on March 23 in Mineola.
