Members of the board of education and staff at the Franklin Square Union Free School District were honored at the monthly board of education meeting at the Washington Street School on Oct. 6.

Superintendent Jared Bloom announced that the school district hired 47 staff members for the 2021-2022 school year and acknowledged each person.

Bloom also recognized Polk Street School reading teacher Lisa LaBella for receiving tenure at the school. “We are honored to be celebrating this achievement this evening, as it is a major milestone in the career of a teacher,” Bloom said. “She is steadfast in her belief that the work she does every day can and will make a difference in the students’ lives, because it does,” Polk Street School Principal Gilbert Torossian said.

The meeting, held during the New York State School Boards Association’s School Board Recognition Week, from Oct. 18 to 22, concluded with video presentations honoring the staff members created by students and staff from all three Franklin Square schools.
