Ron Folk, who had lived in Long Beach for over 35 years and had served as a Little League coach when his children were young, died Nov. 7 of complications of cancer. He was 72.

Folk worked as a stockbroker for Kovack Securities, financial advisors, on Park Avenue in Long Beach. Prior, he had worked in the mental health industry and was a pioneer in helping set up residential programs in Queens after a number of patients were discharged from state mental hospitals decades ago.

Folk was born in Queens Village and attended Martin Van Buren High School and later, Indiana University, where he had won a scholarship for football, his family said.

He met his wife, Robin, at the Silver Moon diner in New Hyde Park where, family members said, they shared their first kiss.

When he became ill a few years ago, family members said, Folk liked to recite a saying: “The evil of this day is sufficient thereof.”

It comes from the Book of Matthew, when Jesus is giving the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus asks his followers not to worry about tomorrow; each day has enough troubles of its own.

Folk is survived by his wife, Robin, of Long Beach, and two daughters Johanna Folk of San Francisco and Sydney Folk of Syracuse.

Services were last week.
