Atkinson’s kindness club spreads peace

Posted

A new student group called the Kindness Club is spreading peace and kindness for students and staff throughout the Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School.

The after-school program is advised by teacher Enza Cellan. The club strives to teach club members how to be kind, support inclusion and boost confidence among all students within the school building.

Their first schoolwide initiative, which took place in early February, asked students in all grades to write messages of how they can spread kindness and peace throughout their school. This activity was inspired by historical Black figures, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, who fought for peace and racial harmony among all people.

In the spring, the Kindness Club will be dedicating a tree to the school’s Peace Garden as a symbol of the club’s commitment to being kind to others.
