The Freeport Board of Education hosted an exciting meeting at J.W. Dodd Middle School, marking the first board meeting being held in a variety of school buildings — a practice that was stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Opening the meeting, the J.W. Dodd Middle School Drama Club performed selections from their production of “Frozen Jr.,” which included the songs “For the First Time in Forever,” “Love Is an Open Door” and “Let It Go.” The Drama Club’s performance was met with resounding applause as Principal Johanne Ligonde thanked the board and administration for supporting the talents of Freeport’s students.

The board recognized the varsity cheerleading team for their amazing winning season as Nassau County champions, seventh in New York State, and being ranked one of the top 20 cheerleading teams nationally.

The varsity boys track team was also applauded for being Nassau County champions, with the individual achievements of team members Dorian Boyd, Matthew Drayton-Thomas, Kazeem Scott and Jordon Quinn being recognized by the board for their outstanding athletic accomplishments during the winter sports season.

“This is definitely a night to celebrate the talents of our students on the stage and on the field,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. “We are very proud of all you have achieved.”
