Freeport High School students recently heard a surprise announcement from Principal Gisselle Campbell-Ham as she officially shared the names of the Class of 2022 top 10 students. One by one, the following outstanding students heard their names and rank announced: valedictorian Elise Smith, salutatorian Karina Rios, Vanessa Mendoza (3), Keyla Romero (4), Sameerah Lawal (5), Brenna Igneri (6), Bryant Pena (7), Gilbert Rosario Acevedo (8), Arianna Martinez (9) and Jillian Igneri (10).

The students were then invited to join a breakfast reception in their honor with Board of Education President Maria Jordan-Awalom, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham, and several administrators and teachers. During the reception, the students shared their college and career goals. They hope to attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the country, including Columbia University, Cornell University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University, and pursue careers in biology, chemistry, physics, medicine and psychology.

“Congratulations on your remarkable achievements,” Dr. Kuncham said. “You did not work [solely] to be in the top 10. Your success is a byproduct of the work you have done throughout your academic career and a testament to your dedication and commitment.”

“Your hard work, discipline and dedication have paid off,” said Ms. Campbell-Ham. “I am excited to learn what’s to come as you move into your next chapter. Remember, we will cheer you on for life.”
