Multiple celebrations of Juneteenth will take place this weekend, as seen in the following list:

Saturday, June 18

TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD, 11:30 a.m.
1 Washington Ave., Hempstead, NY

Supervisor Don Clavin and Deputy Supervisor Dorothy Goosby have announced that the Town of Hempstead’s annual Juneteenth celebration will be held on Saturday, June 18 at Senior Councilwoman Dorothy L. Goosby Plaza, returning to an in-person format after several virtual events were held in past years.

All residents are invited to attend the festivities, which include musical performances, informative lectures on the history of the Juneteenth holiday, various dance and poetry readings, the Juneteenth flag raising and much more!

ZION CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, 5 p.m., 312 Grand Ave., Freeport

Zion Cathedral Church of God in Christ is hosting its second annual Juneteenth event entitled “Ubora: Celebrating Black Men of Excellence,” on Saturday, June 18, 2021, at 5 p.m.

The program will honor African American men who have made substantive contributions to the Black community on Long Island and the greater area. In addition to honoring these trailblazers, the event will feature live entertainment including the harmonious quarter voices of The Dhonny Quartet, inspirational singer Melaine Rochford, and renowned Saxophonist Jeffrey Ballard. Sunday, June 19

BLACK LEGACY PARTNERS

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, from 12 p.m to 5 p.m, Black Legacy Partners, in partnership with signature sponsors TD Bank, Mattress Firm, Fidelis Care, and National Grid, will host the 2nd annual Juneteenth Cultural Festival in Hicksville.

This is one of the largest outdoor events dedicated to commemorating African American history, achievement and accomplishment. It will be in parking fields H16 and H17 of the Hicksville LIRR station. Food vendors will be available, and local Black vendors will have displays of woodcrafts and arts for sale. A live DJ will get people dancing, singing along, and relaxing as they enjoy the event.

NASSAU COUNTY AND JOYSETTA AND JULIUS PEARSE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MUSEUM,  2-6 p.m. Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park

Partnering with the Joysetta and Julius Pearse African American Museum of Nassau County, Legislators Kevan Abrahams, Siela Bynoe, and Carrié Solages are hosting a major Juneteenth celebration from 2-6 p.m. at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park.

Also partnering for the event will be the Nassau Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Nassau County Guardians Association, Inc.

Parking is in Field 6A.

Performances, music, games, vendors, and food are all on the schedule.
