Village Trustees re-elected and sworn in

Jorge A. Martinez and Christopher L. Squeri have been re-elected as Village Trustees in the recent election held on March 21 in the Incorporated Village of Freeport. The Board of Trustees of the Village of Freeport met on March 22 to canvass the votes given in several election districts of said village and the results were as follows.

The whole number of ballots received for the office of trustee was 987, out of which Martinez received 443 votes and Squeri received 403 votes. Therefore, Martinez and Squeri have been declared elected as Village Trustees each for a four-year term, expiring in April 2027.

The village election saw a decent turnout, with a good number of voters casting their ballots. The election was held to elect the Village Trustees who would be responsible for overseeing the governance of the Village of Freeport.

“I’m just very grateful for the residents of the village of Freeport for giving me the opportunity to serve another four years and hopefully keep moving in the right direction and continue the work we’ve been doing,” Squeri said.

Martinez and Squeri were sworn in as the Village Trustees and will start their term in office. The newly elected Trustees are expected to work towards the betterment of the village and its residents, by addressing the various issues that affect the village and by implementing measures to improve the quality of life of the residents.

“I just want to thank the whole village, the employees and the residents,” Martinez said. “This is not about Chris and I, this shows that everyone has a lot of faith in us and most importantly that we come together to work as one big family.”

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Freeport congratulates Martinez and Squeri on their victory and wishes them success in their new roles. The Board also thanks all the voters who participated in the election and exercised their right to vote.

“In the past 10 years, our Trustees and the administration have many accomplishments,” Mayor Robert Kennedy said. “Freeport  Village had 1.2 million dollars in reserves. Currently, we have 24 million; Village debt was 168 million currently the debt is 78 million; The village had 72 police officers now we have 102 police officers, and reduced crime by 56 percent. The Freeport police department is the first police department in New York State to mandate the use of body cameras. We’ve replaced over 100 roads within the village, we have absorbed every increase in workmen’s comp, liability, disability, medical, and retirement. The Village of Freeport residents and businesses have not had a tax increase in 10 years.”
