The Baldwin Bruins Sports Podcast is back in full force for the 2020-2021 school year. The podcast focuses on Baldwin High School sports and includes interviews with athletes and discussions about the past week’s games, as well as experts in the field.

It was launched last year by class of 2020 students Yaw Bonsu and Tyler Brown as part of the senior internship program. Due to the program’s success, Mr. Gregg Kelley, a business teacher, continued the Baldwin Bruins Sports Podcast this year with new students.

Baldwin High School is the only school on Long Island to host such a podcast. After just one year, the Press Club of Long Island selected the Baldwin Bruins Sports Podcast for first place in the Best High School Broadcast category and awarded Bonsu, former co-host, the recipient of the Hank Logeman/News 12 Long Island High School Journalism Scholarship.

A virtual interview process was held at the end of the 2019-2020 school year to select the current staff. The co-hosts are Isaiah Bell and Sophia Smyth. The program expanded the team by adding an editor/producer position, which is currently Matt Vincello.

The district’s athletic director, Ed Ramirez, was their first guest. In addition to the district’s website, this year, the podcast is available on several podcasting sites, including Spotify, Anchor, Apple Podcasts, Breaker, Google Podcasts, Overcast, Radio Public and Stitcher. All three students are actively involved with their school. Smyth’s activities include, but are not limited to, Principal’s Leadership Group, senior ambassador and varsity lacrosse and field hockey, while her co-host, Bell, also part of the Principal’s Leadership Group, plays varsity lacrosse and soccer. Editor/Producer Matt Vincello has been part of the Art Club since his freshman year and has also run Cross Country for two years.
