Tropical Storm Isaias rolls through Oceanside, Island Park

All of Long Island, including Oceanside and Island Park, has begun to feel the effects of Tropical Storm Isaias as it makes its way up the East Coast.

The storm was forecasted to bring heavy rain and winds, with gusts up to 70 mph. It could also bring flooding in low-lying areas near the coast.

Oceanside and Island Park residents have reported multiple power outages as of Tuesday afternoon. According to PSEG Long Island, Oceanside had 177 customers without power, Village of Island Park had five and Barnum Isle and Harbor Isle had no more than 10 combined as of today at 5 p.m. The estimated restoration time is Aug. 6 at 2 p.m., except for Barnum Isle, where power was to be restored by Wednesday at 1:45 p.m.

Island Park Mayor Michael McGinty said crews quickly began working to restore power and clean up trees. 

"In the village, we have some power outages," he said. "PSEG is on it, doing their usual fantastic job. There was some tree damage for homeowners and some minor damage to residences. In short, we were very lucky."

The Long Island Rail Road has suspended service systemwide. Multiple trees have fallen across Hempstead town, including some in Oceanside and Island Park.

NWS forecasters said Isaias will lash the northeast from Tuesday into Wednesday, with the storm dissipating by Thursday.

In the Village of Island Park, officials reminded residents to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
