East Rockaway village officials approve $11.4M budget for 2022-23

East Rockaway village officials have approved an $11.4 million budget for 2022-23.

The spending plan is an increase of 2.94 percent over the 2021-22 budget.

“We worked hard to keep the increase to a minimum,” Mayor Bruno Romano said, “while dealing with increases in fuel, costs related to incineration of sanitation disposal, medical insurance, utilities and fire hydrant rentals, reporting increases for professional services, such as outside audits, inventory control and compliance reporting.”

Romano added that the village has been hard hit by the effects of Covid-19, relative to a significant loss of revenues and a drop in assessments over the past two years. The board’s goal, the mayor said, was to work hard to provide the “very best service to our residents, while keeping the costs down.”
