Irish Day celebrated despite rain and winds

Irish eyes, in fact, all eyes, were smiling Saturday as Long Beach celebrated Irish Day, despite some soggy rain and high winds. But this year there were no covid restrictions in place.

Hundreds turned out to watch the bagpipers, drummers and marchers as they strutted down West Beech Street, beginning at 11 am sharp. There were vendors selling food, drinks and trinkets, and Long Beach city buses offered free rides after 4 pm.

The event was sponsored the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 17 of Long Beach. The organization honored the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors. The City of Long Beach has hosted wounded veterans and their families for a weeklong vacation on the barrier island, along with their families.
