Monique Powell, the executive director of the Martin Luther King Center in Long Beach, announced her resignation Wednesday morning. She did not provide a reason.

MLK Center officials could not be immediately reached.

Her resignation comes days before what is expected to be a large Martin Luther King Day March in Long Beach, Monday morning.

In a brief email Wednesday, Powell said “From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank the Long Beach Martin Luther King Center and the community of Long Beach for allowing me to serve as the executive director. The experience was rewarding.”

The MLK Center is a key institution in Long Beach, serving hundreds of children and adults year-round, providing educational, social and recreational purposes in the community.
