Arlene Wohlfrath, a resident of Rockville Centre for 62 years and former owner of Front Street Bakery, died on Feb. 9. She was 86.

She was surrounded by her children until she peacefully took her last breaths after suffering a major stroke.

Arlene was born in Oakland, Calif. on June 2, 1934. At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, John Wohlfarth, who was stationed in Alameda, California while serving in the U.S. Navy.

They married shortly after meeting and then drove across the country to begin their new lives together in New York, working for John’s family bakery business.

Wohlfarth is predeceased by her parents and five siblings. She is survived by her sister, Angie, and brother, Steve, who still lives in Callifornia.

Arlene adored her family. She is survived by her three loving children, Jeff Wohlfarth (Angela), Lisa Acerno (Kenny) and Gwen Cooleen (John).

She was also blessed with 12 grandchildren: Nicole Wohlfarth, J.J. Wohlfarth (Leigh), Johnny Wohlfarth (Danielle), Chris Acerno (Caitlin), Robert Acerno (Ashley), Jessica Callaghan (Pat), Jackie Acerno, J.P. Cooleen, Kendall Cooleen, Brian Cooleen, Cliff LoSasso and Christina LoSasso.

She was very fortunate to have 11 great grandchildren: Kailyn, Kelsey, Tyler, Lucas, Leo, Juliana, Alexandra, Bobby, Riley, Sophia and William. Family members said the children always put a smile on her face, especially in her later days when life became challenging.

Arlene lived her life with honesty and integrity along with an incredible work ethic and strong family values. She had a beautiful smile and kind heart, family members said.

Those close to her admired her toughness, cherished her friendship and appreciated her generosity. She was an avid reader and loved to travel.

Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family at home in Rockville Centre and out east in Mattituck.

Arlene passed with dignity and grace, the exact way she lived her life. Arlene could not have written a more beautiful ending to the tremendous story of her life. Family members said they find comfort knowing that she is back in the arms of her husband, John. “She will be in our hearts forever and will be dearly missed by many.”

“We celebrated her life with a beautiful mass on Feb. 15, said by Msgr. Jim Lisante, giving her a beautiful send-off.”
