East Rockaway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 335 reopens

As the East Rockaway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 335 enters phase three of reopening, they are now operating again at 50 percent occupancy and bringing back some programs.

Alcoholics Anonymous hosted its first meeting on Monday at 7 p.m., while the VFW Auxiliary will begin meeting the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. and the VFW will host a meeting the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

“The post facility is in full 100 percent compliance with the New York state Department of Health and the CDC guidelines,” VFW Quartermaster Pat Iuliucci said. “We have also started to book events at the hall, for special events, also offering the backyard for various outdoor venues.”

In the coming weeks, the post will return to running the Veterans Thrift Shop, which will be open five to seven days a week, weather permitting. The VFW hall also hosts a daily breakfast every morning from 9 a.m. to noon, where a small gathering of veterans and local community residents gather for coffee and to have a discussion.

Iuliucci said membership recruiting is still the post’s top priority. It welcomes veterans from World War II and those who served in Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan, and those members of the service who may have served during the Cold War, immanent danger, and hostile fire zones.

Those looking to book the post for events, such as baby and bridal showers, birthdays, christenings, communions, confirmations, graduations, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, religious events, union meetings, fraternal organizations, flea markets, or small education seminars are also asked to contact Gary at (516) 887-8170 or Pat at (516) 668-7383, for more information. More information is available at the post’s website, vfwpost3350.org.
