Event organizers, Lynbrook Council of PTAs, said it was the first in nearly a decade that the Fly with the Owls Scholarship 5K took place and it was on a sun-splashed Sunday at North Middle School.
A kids fun run went off at 8 a.m. and the race about 30 minutes late on Oct. 27, in Lynbrook.
This is the first year of the event hosted by the Lynbrook Council of PTAs, however it was inspired by an event with the same name that was a community staple for many years.
The top three finishers were Lynbrook resident Tyler Paige, Kyle Dunning from East Rockaway, and Gregory Waxman, of Malverne. Paige, 16, captured first place with a time of 17:16.09. Dunning, 34, place second in 17:26.69 and Waxman, 42, took third in 20:56.44.
Delia Kirkpatrick, from Lynbrook, 15, was the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 22:37.49.
