The owner of Joe's Pizzeria on Lakeview Avenue suffered minor burns while trying to extinguish a fire in the back office of his restaurant Thursday afternoon. He was later treated for his injuries and transported to South Nassau Hospital by a Northwell ambulance.

The fire was contained to the office area, but the Health Department and Fire Marshal's Office were notified. Firefighters spent over an hour on the scene, with no injuries reported among the responders.

The fire was quickly upgraded to a working fire as Engine Company 1 arrived first. Crews used a 2.5-inch hose to battle the blaze, entering through the kitchen to reach the office.

Lynbrook firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 144 Lakeview Avenue at 12:41 p.m. After arriving, Fire Chief Scott Bien found the owner attempting to control the flames, which had engulfed his office. The chief assisted the owner, who was covered in soot and experiencing smoke inhalation.

Truck Company personnel set up ladders at the building's front and helped to overhaul the office after the fire was contained. Mutual aid from Rockville Centre and Malverne departments assisted in laddering neighboring storefronts, while units from Lakeview and Valley Stream responded to the scene. Hewlett and East Rockaway fire departments covered other local calls during the response.
