Superintendent of the Malverne School District, Lorna Lewis, was recently announced as the recipient of the Sojourner Truth National Meritorious Service Award. The Central Nassau Club of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. is presenting the award to her.
The NANBPWC was founded in 1939 with the mission to promote and protect the interest of the African American business and professional women. The organization connects young people seeking to enter the professional world with mentors and provides community for these businesswomen.
The Central Nassau Club was established in 1959. Recognizing founders day is an opportunity for the club to recognize the accomplishments of individuals, businesses, organizations and high school students from the local community.
“I am indeed honored to be selected for this prestigious award,” Lewis wrote about receiving the Sojourner Truth National Meritorious Service Award in a statement to the Herald. “To be recognized in the spirit of such a courageous and trailblazing leader is not only a privilege, but also carries with it a profound sense of responsibility to carry on her legacy in our work here at Malverne.”
Lewis will be presented with her award at the Central Nassau Club’s 66th Founders’ Day and Scholarship Celebration on April 12 at The Coral House in Baldwin.
