Lynbrook residents help Move the Food for local pantry

Posted

Pallets and boxes of food were delivered to people in need thanks to a group of volunteers who participated in the annual Move the Food Day event, which is organized each year by Lynbrook residents Rob and Mary Hallam.

On Sunday, dozens of people joined the Hallums in donating and delivering food to the Long Island Council of Churches food pantry in Freeport. This year, the donations came pouring in.

“Covid can’t keep us down,” Rob said. “The weather cant keep us down. We collected more boxes than ever before.”

The volunteers created an assembly line to help smoothly deliver the boxes, which were packed into trucks. Once at the shelter, food pantry manager and Program Coordinator Yolanda Murray helped stack the food onto pallets.

Volunteers from all ages participated in the effort, including Wade Becher, 4, who helped his father, Tom, pass the boxes of food along the assembly line. After the event, the group gathered at Jeremey’s Ale House to safely celebrate the successful outing.
