Malverne students ‘journey’ aboard the ‘Polar Express’

Before the holiday break, a magical Malverne tradition continued at Maurice W. Downing Primary School as Principal Erick Walter donned his conductor hat and took the kindergartners on a fantastical holiday journey aboard the “Polar Express.”

Inspired by the 1985 fantasy children’s picture book of the same name written and illustrated by American author Chris Van Allsburg and, of course, the 2004 movie featuring the voice of Tam Hanks in multiple roles, the students pretending to be travelers each received a ticket that was punched before entering the gym, where Walter was waiting to share with them this holiday tale complete with music and sound effects to bring the imaginary trip to life in their minds.

After the story was over, the students got off the train and went back to their classrooms where a special holiday gift was waiting.
