At a special meeting held via Zoom on June 10, Valley Stream Central High School District’s Board of Education voted to grant a medical leave of absence for Superintendent Dr. William Heidenreich. The board appointed Dr. Wayne Loper as acting superintendent until the end of the month.

According to the board’s resolution, Heidenreich’s leave of absence began on June 11 at the close of the business day. The leave is granted until June 30 and is subject to further consideration by the board.

Loper had been serving as the assistant superintendent for finance and operations prior to assuming the role of acting superintendent. He also served as acting superintendent for several weeks in early 2021 during which time Heidenreich had also been granted a medical leave.

“It’s my honor to serve the students, staff, and community overall of Valley Stream,” Loper said of assuming the role of acting superintendent. “My sole goal is to provide quality educational opportunities to the students in this district and together, I believe we can achieve great things.”
