Brooklyn man resists arrest in Lawrence

Stopping the car Dwayne Gordon was driving was easy, arresting Gordon became problematic as the Brooklyn man allegedly resisted arrest twice after a traffic stop near the Nassau Expressway and Rockaway Turnpike in Lawrence on July 30.

Police said they saw a gray 2010 Mercedes Benz with a Texas registration commit multiple traffic infractions while driving in the vicinity of the expressway at 12:50 a.m. The officers from the Bureau of Special Operations stopped the car and subsequently determined that Gordon, 20, had used fake Texas license plates on the vehicle. He was removed from the car and placed into custody, police said.

As officers were trying to put Gordon in the back of the police vehicle, he  pulled away from them and tried to run away, according to police. They were able to regain control of Gordon, who then allegedly violently resisted the officers trying to put him into the police car a second time. He headbutted an officer before finally being put in the police car, according to police. An officer sustained a facial cut and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Gordon, of East 93rd Street, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree escape, second criminal possession of a forged instrument and multiple traffic infractions. He will be arraigned on July 30 at First District Court at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
