She said yes!

Calhoun coaches get engaged on the field

For Sanford H. Calhoun High School football coach Joe Migliano, there was no better place to propose to his girlfriend, cheer coach Christine Meiselas, than on the Calhoun field itself. It’s where the two met and started dating years before.

Before the game on Saturday, March 27, Migliano got down on one knee and popped the question. The crowd of players, cheerleaders and family members erupted into cheers as the shocked Meiselas answered, “Yes.”

“We met here, and there’s no better place to do it than right here,” Migliano said with Meiselas by his side. “If not for Calhoun, we don’t meet. I found someone who I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

The proposal came as a surprise for Meiselas. Before the game, the football and cheer teams’ seniors lined up on the field for a photo — an unusual practice before a game. As they walked away, Migliano posed for one more photo with Meiselas before pulling out the ring.

“We don’t usually stop and take pictures right before we’re going to take the field, so something was up,” Meiselas said. “A really good something!”

Both Migliano and Meiselas started working at Calhoun in 2014, Migliano said. They started dating a year later and have been a couple at Calhoun for the past six years.
