Last night, the Rockville Centre Board of Education announced that they and Superintendent June Chang, who resigned and was to leave the district on May 22, had agreed to move that departure up to November 19.

The board unanimously authorized “a certain agreement” between the board and the outgoing superintendent before starting the regular public work session.

At the meeting and in a letter sent out to parents of the district, Board President John O’Shea announced that current Assistant Superintendent Robert Bartels has been named acting superintendent of schools.

“While we are surprised by Mr. Chang’s desire to prematurely end his service to the district, we agree with him that this is likely the best decision for him and for the school district at this time,” O’Shea said.

O’Shea also announced that search firm School Leadership LLC will assist in the hiring of a new superintendent.
