Freeport's young students keep on giving.

Trotting for a cause this Thanksgiving: Freeport’s Archer Elementary students raise funds for pediatric cancer

With a sunny sky and brisk breezes, Archer Street Elementary School students, staff and members of Freeport’s administration gathered at the school for their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.

This year, the school’s Turkey Trot kicked off with Principal Paula Lein thanking the students for their hard work and expressing to them the impact they had in raising funds for Whip Pediatric Cancer, an organization that raises awareness for pediatric cancer and helps fund research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Principal Lein then presented the organization with a check for $4,221 to help fund the organization’s mission.

Following, wearing festive hats, crowns and holding thanksgiving-themed signs, Archer’s first through fourth grade students walked two laps around the school building as part of their annual fundraiser, proving that raising money for a good cause is also a great way to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

Generosity at Bayview and Leo F. Giblyn Schools

Students in the Bayview Avenue and Leo F. Giblyn elementary schools in the Freeport School District showed their concern for others by participating in a holiday food drive.

Bayview students and families generously donated more than 1,100 cans of food to Island Harvest to be shared with families in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. The school’s theme for their food drive was "Generosity is one of the many strengths of the Bayview family."

During their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, students and families at Leo F. Giblyn Elementary School generously donated 1,885 food items which were donated to Freeport Outreach.
