Olivia Medford, from Rockville Centre, will be playing in the NCAA tournament with the High Point University Panthers. She is a standout basketball player known for her impressive achievements on and off the court.
The Panthers will be playing CAA champions, the William & Mary Tribe from Virginia, in a First Four game for the number 16 seed in Birmingham 3 region on March 20 at 9 p.m. The game can be watched on ESPN.
During Medford’s freshman year at Monroe University, in New Rochelle, from 2021 to 2022, she averaged 12.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. She led her team in points and steals, ranking 19th in the NJCAA for steals, and finished the season with four double-doubles. Her standout performances included scoring 26 points against ASA College in Brooklyn and Monroe Community College in Rochester, and a 13-point, 11-steal double-double against Erie Community College in Buffalo.
In her sophomore year, Medford continued to excel, averaging a team-leading 12.6 points per game along with 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals. She scored in double-figures 21 times, including five games with 20-plus points. A season high of 26 points came against Raritan Valley Community College, in Branchburg, New Jersey, and she also posted a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double against Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland.
Her excellence on the court earned her several accolades, including NJCAA Honorable Mention, NJCAA All-American and NJCAA Region 15 Player of the Year honors for the 2021-22 season.
Medford transferred to Indiana State for her junior year but was sidelined by injury for the season. She joined the High Point Panthers for her senior year, the 2024-25 season, and has scored a total of seven points, shooting 28% from the field and 25% from three-point range, while hitting 81.8% of free throws. The player also recorded 10 rebounds, three assists, seven steals and 0.7 points per game, contributing efficiently in limited playing time.
A product of Long Island Lutheran High School, in Brookville, Medford also played for the New Heights Youth Inc. Amateur Athletic Union team in New York City, showcasing her talent from a young age.
