Rockville Centre to host second annual holiday lights competition

Posted

The Village of Rockville Centre is hosting its second annual RVC Holiday Lights competition.

Homeowners are invited to dig out their lights and decorations to showcase their holiday spirit and traditions and win bragging rights for the village’s community-wide decorating contest. Each home entered into the competition will be included in a community listing that will be available to residents who are encouraged to take a lights tour and cast their votes online.

Homes will be judged on curb appeal in several categories, including “Clark Griswold,” for over-the-top lighting and decorations; “Martha Stewart,” for design elements that would make the famed retail business owner jealous; “Party of Lights,” homes that are very bright; “Best Block,” which will comprise an entire block of homes; and “Family Friendly,” decorations that engage the village’s youngest residents.

RVC Holiday Lights will be featured on the village’s social media pages. To enter, send a photo of your decorated home to rvcholidaylights@gmail.com.

Those participating should have their homes decorated by Dec. 8. Winning homes will be announced on the village’s website and social media pages on Dec. 15. The last day to register a home is Dec. 6 by calling the Recreation Center, at (516) 678-9238, and homes can be included in any individual category and the “Best Block” category simultaneously. On Dec. 10 and 11, a list of decorated homes will be available at rvcny.gov. Voting will be live on the same website until Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. See Santa and his helpers at Village Hall on Dec 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. The event is drive-by only and all participants are asked to remain in their vehicles.
