After placing Freeport Superintendent Fia Davis on administrative reassignment, the school district released a statement on Saturday that the board had "secured an interim superintendent."

The statement added that the district anticipates that the individual will be appointed by the Board during a special meeting on Tuesday, at Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School at 6 p.m.

Freeport  Superintendent Fia Davis was placed on administrative reassignment effective immediately after an unscheduled Board of Education meeting on April 21, where three out of the five trustees passed the resolution. Two of the five board members were not in attendance.

The reassignment includes full pay and benefits and was effective immediately, according to a statement the district posted on its website on April 23.

"This action was taken in accordance with the Board’s legal and fiduciary responsibilities and reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct and accountability," the statement read.

The statement also noted that due to legal and personnel privacy considerations that the board was limited in what it could share about the development, but that "administrative reassignment is a neutral action and does not imply any wrongdoing."

An unidentified source close to the issue said that Freeport Teachers' Association "is worried about the lack of leadership and worry the state might get wind and come in."

Before Freeport, Davis had  previously served as the Bronx High School superintendent of  school districts 8, 10, and 11 starting in July 2022 where she oversaw more than 20,000 students.

She also served as deputy superintendent at Bronx District 10, where earlier she'd served for 15 years as a principal.

Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Africana studies from the University at Albany, a master’s degree in secondary education from New York University, and a master’s degree in educational administration from Pace University.

Davis earned her doctorate in education from Fordham in December of last year.

She replaced Kishore Kuncham, who had been with the Freeport school district for 30 years, including 15 years as superintendent.

Story is developing and will be updated.
