Valedictorian Amy Sharin, salutatorian Nader Daruvala and honor speaker Daniela Andrade are the top three scholars of the class of 2021 for Lawrence High School.

We are immensely proud of the hard work that Amy, Nader, and Daniela have put in during their academic careers,” Superintendent Dr. Ann Pedersen said in a news release. “These students represent our district beautifully, and I have no doubt that they will succeed tremendously in whatever path they take in life.”

Sharin is leaning to majoring in chemical engineering at either Rice or Cornell universities, where she has gained admission, and possibly work within the renewable energy and sustainability field.

The high-level research she conducted on fuel cells through the Garcia Summer Scholars Program at Stony Brook was presented at the Materials Research Society fall conference. Sharin was also captain of the varsity girls’ basketball and soccer teams, and treasurer of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Considered a dedicated student, Daruvala served as secretary of Key Club, junior vice president and vice president of Tri-M Music Honor Society. A two-time DECA internationals competitor, he is the principal clarinetist for the high school wind ensemble and took part in boys’ varsity cross country and track and field.

Daruvala attended the All-Star Code SI. As part of a team of students helped develop a web app called “Inventure.” He credits his Advanced Placement chemistry teacher, Rebecca. Isseroff, with inspiring him to follow his passion for computer science, his possible major at either Cornell or Carnegie Mellon universities, where he has gained admission.

Andrade in involved in high school life from being president of the Student Government Association, science bowl and the History Club, along with being a member of Model Congress (assistant chair board member) and the Debate Club.

She was captain of the girls’ varsity cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. As a freshman, Andrade ran the sixth-fastest 5K ever run by any Lawrence High School female with a time of 22:36. She founded her own club, called College Bound that provides resources and assistance to Lawrence students in the college application process. Her plans are to study biomedical engineering at Harvard with the goal of becoming a doctor.
