Lawrence village board welcomes new trustees

The Village of Lawrence board of trustees agenda was shorter that usual and decreased in length after a planned public hearing was adjourned at the Sept. 16 meeting.

Swearing in Mayor Alex Edelman for another two-year term, Village Justice Gary Mandel for his four-year term and new Trustees Eli Kutner and Paris Popack for their two-year terms after the Sept. 15 election were the main events.

Edelman also presented former Trustee Syma Diamond, who did not run for re-election, with a village proclamation. The board also said goodbye to Trustee Uri Kaufman who lost his bid for re-election.

Village Administrator Ron Goldman administered te oath of office to Mandel, who then swore in Edelman, Kutner and Popack. Daniel Goldstein who ran for mayor remains on the board. Trustee Michael Fragin retains his deputy mayor status.

The board did unanimously agree to approve the installation of a drain at Waverly Place at a cost not to exceed $20,000. A six-week fall tennis program for current members at the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club was also approved. The cost is $200 per person.

The next village board meeting is Oct. 15.
