Hewlett-Woodmere Public School's 2025-26 budget passes

The Hewlett-Woodmere Public School District’s proposed budget of $143,082,665 was passed on May 20, with 1,148 out of the 1,854 voters approving the budget.

This year’s estimated tax levy is 1.75 percent.

The school’s budget increased $4,587,973, a 3.31 percent increase from last year’s $138,494,692.

Along with the school’s budget, proposition two was approved by 1,167 out of the 1,822 voters.

Proposition two is a capital improvements project, not to exceed the amount of $3,879,968 from Long Range Building Improvement Fund.

The Proposition includes: Renovation of the baseball/softball field at Woodmere Middle School that must cost less than $3,180,000, replacement of security, floor and interior doors at Woodmere Middle School that must cost less than $299,968 and renovation of bathrooms at Franklin Early Childhood Center that must cost less than $400,000.

Proposition three was also approved by 1,151 out of the 1,815 voters.

Proposition three is also a capital improvements project, not to exceed the amount of $6,500,000 from Long Range Building Improvement Fund number two for certain capital improvements.

The proposition includes: District-wide security upgrades (including the implementation of a one-button lockdown, door replacement, upgrades to communication infrastructure) which must cost less than $4,445,000, upgrades to district-wide technology, infrastructure which must cost less than $500,000, installation of lighting on the Woodmere Middle School baseball/softball field which must cost less than $888,000 and installation of lighting on the Woodmere Middle School tennis court which must cost less than $675,000.   

In an uncontested race, trustee’s Debbi Sheinin and Chani Jeter were both elected for another term. This marks Sheinin’s fourth term on the board and Jeter’s second.
