Seaford Chamber Easter Egg Hunt is back

The Seaford Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday in Washington Avenue Park, which will feature a live performance by DJ Brian and a special visit from the Easter Bunny.

The chamber’s  annual event was taken over by first vice president, Donna Jebaily, in 2019. It was intended to be a yearly gathering, but it had to be canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and last year a socially distanced egg “giveaway” took place. “Covid really put a lot of holds on community events,” Jebaily said. “No one saw each other.”

Looking to get the community involved — and together again — after the relaxation of Covid regulations, Jebaily has been planning the event, once again a normal egg hunt, for months. “We’d like to see everyone have a good time,” she said, “and it’s really important to get to know your neighbors.”

Jebaily has ordered 4,000 plastic eggs from Sunny Bunny Easter Eggs, an online company known for employing people with disabilities and making special Easter eggs that are easier to open. The eggs will be filled with small toys rather than candy because of dietary restrictions children may have.

The event will be staffed by volunteers from the Seaford school district, including students who will give children temporary tattoos. Jebaily’s children will be among the volunteers, something she says they enjoy doing for the community. The hunt will also offer teens the opportunity to earn community service hours.

The eggs will be “hidden” around the park on the morning of the hunt by the volunteers.

“The Seaford Chamber of Commerce is happy to bring the Easter Egg Hunt back to Seaford for the community to enjoy,” chamber President Margaret Grub said in a statement. “Thank you to Donna for all the hard work in putting this event together.”

So far, 500 children have been registered for the hunt. They will be divided into age groups to keep the event fair. Jebaily said that they would also be limited to se-ven eggs each to give everyone a chance.

Jebaily said she was also looking forward to the fundraisers she will be promoting for the event. The chamber will collect items to be donated to St. William’s and For the Love of Pete’s Pantry. Last year’s donations, Jebaily said, filled an entire pantry.

“We always incorporate a fundraiser into our events,” she said of the chamber. “It’s important to give back.”

Rules and regulations are posted on the chamber’s Facebook page. Jebaily will list items needed for the donation later in the week.
