On June 27, the Seaford Public Library officially kicked off its summer reading program – as well as other planned events – with an outdoor party in the Library parking lot. The kickoff took place under a tent, and had music, food, and raffle prizes for anyone who attended.

According to the Head of Children’s Services Jacqueline Lopez, this is the Seaford Library’s first full summer of events since the pandemic began, with events planned for both July and August.

“We’re gonna have puppet shows, magic shows, Suffolk Farm is going to come,” said Lopez. “We’re going to have science programs, chess games, and Build-A-Bear too.

A little bit of everything.” Lopez added that the programs are divided between baby-to-age-two, and kindergarten-to-fifth.

At the end of the summer, the children who read will get prizes as well as a summer reading finale show.

The Seaford Public Library’s summer programs, however, are not limited to only children.

According to Head of Adult Services Kristen Jording, the Library has plenty to offer for teenagers and adults as well.

“For adults, we just have them read as many books as they can,” Jording said. “And for their grand prize, they can win an iPad or a FitBit.”

The Seaford Library also offers events such as outdoor movies and concerts. On June 18, they hosted a Rolling Stones tribute band called “Streetfighter”.

On July 23, they will be hosting a Beatles cover band called “Penny Lane." On August 20, they will be hosting the band “Carbon Copy,” and on September 10, a band called “Just Sixties”. In terms of outdoor movies, they will be showing Disney’s Jungle Cruise on August 5.

All of these events will be held outdoors, in the parking lot; that includes the summer reading events as well, due to remaining careful about coronavirus.
“It’s unfortunate that we can’t do it inside, but we’re still going to have a great summer here,” Jacqueline Lopez said.
