A Bellmore man is in stable condition this morning after crash-landing his plane in Old Bethpage on Sunday afternoon.

According to the FAA, the 57-year-old pilot crashed his twin-engine Cessna C421 by the former Old Bethpage waste disposal complex near the Nassau Fire Academy shortly after 1 p.m.

Officials said the pilot took off from Republic Airport in Farmingdale and was flying overhead when he reported engine troubles. The plane's second engine failed too, according to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, and it crash landed, coming to a stop on a fence.

Saladino said the pilot was en route to Connecticut and attempted to turn around to go back to Farmingdale when the engines failed.

The man was able to talk to first responders at the scene, and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The FAA is investigating the incident.
