Elmont man arrested after holding woman hostage

An Elmont man who held a woman hostage on April 2 has been arrested, Nassau County police report.

According to Nassau County detectives, Chad Williams, 33, of Elmont, had been in a dispute with a 22-year-old female and pointed a gun at her, at which point the victim tried to call the police. Williams then grabbed her phone to prevent her from making the call, but she found another phone to dial 911.

Police were on the scene on Jacob Street in Elmont a short while later, they said, but Williams refused to come out of the house. The police then formed a perimeter around the house, they reported, and the Nassau County Emergency Service Unit for the Bureau of Special Operations and Hostage Negotiation was dispatched.

As a result of continued communication between Williams and the police, police said, he eventually complied with officers, who were then able to place him into custody. No injuries were reported.

Williams is charged with menacing in the second-degree, criminal mischief in the fourth-degree and criminal impersonation in the second-degree for an unrelated open warrant from the Nassau County Police Department. He was scheduled to be arraigned on April 3 in Mineola.
