Individual fatally struck near Wantagh LIRR station

An unauthorized individual was fatally struck on the railroad tracks near the Wantagh Long Island Rail Road station Tuesday night. 

A Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson said that the individual, who has not been identified, was hit at 5:04 p.m. MTA police are still investigating the incident, the spokesperson said. 

Customers riding the Long Island Rail Road's Babylon branch faced delays as a result of the incident.  Customers were asked to anticipate delays and possible cancellations Tuesday evening, the MTA spokesperson said. Customers were advised to check https://new.mta.info/agency/long-island-rail-road for service impacts.

As of 9 a.m. on Sept. 15, the branch was operating "on or close" to schedule.
