Lynbrook restaurant owner Frank Abbracciamento died recently, according to a post from his family on the business’s Instagram.

Abbracciamento’s cause and date of death and his age were not disclosed at press time, and a call to the restaurant was not returned.

“It is with our deepest sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved father, son, brother and uncle,” the social media post read. “He was so proud to bring back and share the Abbracciamento family restaurant experience.”

Abbracciamento, the owner of Abbracciamento’s at 174 Merrick Road in Lynbrook, opened the establishment in the village in 2019, and had to close for five months after the coronavirus pandemic hit. Upon reopening, he told the Herald in November that his business was down by 70 percent because of the health restrictions put in place by elected officials. However, he said at the time that he was optimistic for the future.

“We opened for three months, closed for five months and we are trying to build back up again,” he said at the time about his business. “There are weeks where you’re not even covering your costs, but you’ve got to have the strong will to survive.”

Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach said Abbracciamento meant a great deal to the village.

“My heart goes out to his family,” he said. “He brought a beautiful restaurant to our village. He will be sorely  missed. When you went into his restaurant, he always had a friendly greeting and kind word.”

Abbracciamento’s wake was Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home in Staten Island, and his funeral Mass was Monday at St. Patrick’s Church, and was also live streamed. According to the Instagram post, Abbracciamento’s in Lynbrook will remain open in loving memory of Frank
