A Queens Village man was arrested Wednesday in connection with three instances of burglary at St. Agnes Cathedral, two in August 2019 and one in January.

Long Beach Police Department arrested and charged Alexander Barone, 30, of 62 Kelvin Street, Queens Village, for an open, Nassau County warrant for criminal possession of a controlled substance. During that arrest, it was revealed that he was the subject involved in the burglaries committed in Rockville Centre. Then, he was transported to Nassau County detectives for arrest processing in connection with the burglaries, which occurred on Aug. 20 and 27, 2019 and Jan. 30.

According to detectives, on both August dates, the suspect entered St. Agnes Cathedral when the church was closed. On Aug. 20, 2019, at about 5:30 p.m., the subject pried open a donation box and removed an undetermined amount of U.S. currency. On Aug. 27, 2019, at about 4:30 p.m., the subject entered the main area of the church, which was closed, by going through a locked gate and again pried open a donation box removing an undetermined amount of U.S. currency.

Barone is charged with three counts of third-degree burglary and criminal possession of controlled substance. He will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on Feb. 20.
