In honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, students gathered at Molloy College for the second annual Day of Service, engaging in a variety of projects on the morning of Jan. 20.
The day began with a Morning Motivation Moment by Sister Diane Capuano, inspiring participants to heed the call of service instead of simply taking the day off from work or school. Events around campus included Bring the Smiles, where students assembled bags filled with crayons, Play-Doh, stickers, coloring books and finger puppets for afterschool programs, clinics and hospitals; Project Crochet, where students sewed together squares into blankets to be donated to women undergoing chemotherapy treatment; Setting the Table, allowing students to assemble plastic flatware bundles for the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead; Care Kits of collections of toiletries for the homeless; and Smile Boxes, where students decorated boxes for transporting educational items to children at Mt. Sinai South Nassau Hospital.
