New Woodmere water main being installed

For the next four weeks New York American Water will be installing a new water main along Greenfield Road from Westwood Road east to Northfield Road in Woodmere, replacing 1,100 feet of  water main with new 8-inch ductile iron main, along with replacing four fire hydrants and 10 utility-owned service lines.

The project is costing $530,000, according to water company officials. Work will be done from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Sections of the street might be closed to traffic during work times. Street restoration will be performed after the work is completed, officials said.

“The replacement of aging water mains is a key focus of our infrastructure investment program for our customers in Service Area 1,” New York American Water director of engineering John Kilpatrick said in a news release. “Aging unlined cast iron water mains contribute to intermittent discolored water and poor water flow, and every water main replacement project helps combat these issues.”
