Rockville Centre Lions to hold drive-through food collection

Posted

Responding to the increased need for food assistance during the Covid-19 crisis, the Rockville Centre Lions Club will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items at the RVC Recreation Center parking lot on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The items collected will be distributed to local food pantries assisting those who are experiencing food insecurity. Anyone wishing to donate can drive up to the collection point and pop open their trunk. Lion volunteers wearing gloves and masks will collect the items while maintaining social distance.

Among the items requested are canned meats (chicken, tuna, ham), hearty soups and stews, pasta, jarred sauce, canned chili, canned beans, canned fruit, canned vegetables, apple sauce, cooking oils, peanut butter, rice and breakfast items such as hot and cold cereals, breakfast bars, pancake mix, syrup and muffin mix. There is also a need for diapers and toiletries, including deodorant, soap, shampoo, toilet tissue, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving items and feminine hygiene products.

The Rockville Centre Lions have been serving the community as part of the world’s largest service organization since 1934. Addressing the nutritional needs of society is one of the global missions of Lions International. For more information about this event or membership in the RVC Lions Club, call (516) 536-7601.
