Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at South Side High School as Rockville Centre School District residents will have the opportunity to vote on the $129 million budget proposal for 2022-23.

The 2022-23 budget is roughly $5 million more than the 2021-22 spending plan. It marks a tax increase of about $278 for the average taxpayer, and includes $1,800,000 in capital projects for maintenance, renovations and improvements throughout district buildings.

“With this sound and fiscally responsible budget, the district will provide increases to current programs while building upon existing ones that ensure opportunity for all students,” school officials wrote in a budget newsletter. “We will continue to focus on professional development to elevate student learning, make capital improvements to fortify our school facilities, increase staffing to strengthen programs and enrich classroom instruction, as well as continue to build 21st Century skills through technology. We are confident the proposed budget will achieve our goal of growth while maintaining our high standards of education.”

The spending plan will expand art, athletic and extracurricular clubs and programs and includes carefully-designed curriculums for all grade levels, which features an emphasis on the needs of special education students.
